Proud to Care Awards: celebrating our adult social care workers

By: Councillor Barry Answer

Colleagues from Nottinghamshire County and Nottingham City Councils along with the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Care Association, are gearing up for the third Nottinghamshire Proud to Care Awards, which take place next week.

These brilliant awards are held to recognise and thank people who work in the care sector across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.  They provide an opportunity to shine a light on the people who work in a wide range of social care roles - in home care, day services, care homes, supported living, maintaining independence and specialist activities - who make a real difference and change the lives of the people they support every single day.

The award ceremony will give finalists, guests and sponsors an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those who work in social the care sector, connect with others in similar work environments, share ideas and be inspired by truly moving stories of how social care has transformed people’s lives.

I know that working in social care isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s hard and colleagues face challenging situations. Sometimes it’s emotional supporting people through various life situations. Colleagues take pride in what they do and work hard to make sure people get the support they need. It’s always incredibly satisfying to know that our colleagues working in care are making a difference, and they can be the reason people have a smile on their faces each day.

For many people it’s more than just a job. Those who work in care support thousands of people with a wide range of differing needs. They are committed, inspiring, hard-working, and passionate about the people they care for.

This year, we received over 700 nominations across 12 categories, and I know the judging panel had a really tough job of selecting the finalists and winners.

My Deputy Cabinet Member, Cllr Kelvin Wright, and I are looking forward to meeting this year’s finalists, winners, the people who nominated them and some of the people whose lives have been changed by the people work in care.

It promises to be a wonderful evening, and one that reminds us why those who work in social care deserve this recognition.
