A614/A6097: Main works to begin at Kirk Hill junction from 24 August
Earthworks, utility diversions and the removal of traffic islands, lighting columns and traffic lights will be the main focus at Kirk Hill in East Bridgford as works move onto the junction itself later this month.
Works on the A614/A6097 scheme officially kicked off last month, and now that archaeology works off East Bridgford Road are complete, main works to improve the junction will begin on 24 August 2026.
The works, which will be delivered by Danaher and Walsh on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council and Via East Midlands, mean that Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road will be closed from 24 August for 12 months and that a temporary speed restriction will be in place on the A6097.
Motorists travelling to and from East Bridgford are advised that a diversion route will be in place via Fosse Way, Butt Lane and Main Street.
Trent Lane and Brunt’s Lane will remain closed and will not be opened as part of the diversion and motorists are asked to avoid attempting to use these roads to access East Bridgford.
Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Last month we told you that archaeology works at Kirk Hill had officially marked the start of works on the wider A614/A6097 scheme and we are pleased to have another update for residents and motorists that works will now be moving on to the junction later this month.
“This is a really exciting time for Nottinghamshire as we look to bring these long-awaited improvements to a key corridor through the county into reality.
“Once works at Kirk Hill are complete next autumn, the junction will have an extra lane in each direction and new road markings will make turning right easier.
“Other upgrades to the junction will include a new traffic signal system to better manage vehicle flow, upgraded street lighting to increase visibility, the renewal of the footpath along Kirk Hill and upgrades to the bridleway crossing to improve access for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders.
“We know that the closure of Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road will affect residents and motorists travelling to and from East Bridgford and so we would like to reassure them that a diversion route will be in place.
“These road closures are necessary to ensure the safety of our staff working on site and we have carefully designed the programme of work to make sure that disruption is reduced where possible.
