Work to upgrade classrooms at Leen Mill Primary school is taking shape

Two old classroom blocks are to be replaced with modern, fit-for-purpose permanent classrooms thanks to a £1.6 million investment by Nottinghamshire County Council.

Initial work at Leen Mills Primary school in Hucknall started in March 2026 and is expected to be completed in August 2026, ready for the start of the new school year.

The ageing mobile classrooms, which are in need of repair, are being removed and replaced with a fit-for-purpose, permanent building which has space for two classrooms and will provide an improved learning environment and  will also free up space for a new cricket play area.

The new building will have safety and energy efficient features such as a linked fire alarm, air source heating pumps and solar panels to help save on energy bills.

This project is being designed, project and cost managed by Arc Partnership, a joint venture between Nottinghamshire County Council and SCAPE, acting as the council's property and development partner.

Councillor James Walker-Gurley, the county council's Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Asset Management and Rory Green, Cabinet Member for Children and Families visited the school. Welcoming the progress being made at the school site, Cllr Walker-Gurley said:

“It’s fantastic to see this work taking place which will help improve the learning environment.

“It’s vital we invest wisely in our schools and Leen Mills is a great example of how funding is being used to improve the school buildings which are most in need of an upgrade."

Headteacher Karen Goldson added:

“The new classrooms will provide our children with modern, high-quality learning spaces that will enhance their educational experience. They represent an exciting investment in the future of our school and the opportunities we can offer every pupil."

Dan Maher, Managing Director of Arc Partnership, said:

"We're pleased to be supporting Nottinghamshire County Council and Leen Mills Primary School in delivering these improvements for pupils and staff.

"High-quality learning environments play an important role in supporting education, and the new classrooms will provide modern, comfortable and energy-efficient spaces designed to meet the needs of the school both now and in the future.

"It's great to see the project progressing well, and we look forward to handing over the new facilities ready for the start of the new academic year."
