Pre-construction works to begin at Ollerton roundabout from November

The first works to improve Ollerton roundabout as part of the A614/A6097 major road network scheme are set to begin on site in November, with main works starting in Spring 2027.

Motorists and residents are likely to see teams on site between November 2026 and February 2027 completing vegetation clearance works, footway improvements and third-party utility diversions.

These works, which will be delivered by Galliford Try on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council and Via East Midlands, will enable main roundabout improvement works to start from March 2027.

Traffic management, including a single lane closure and temporary traffic lights, will be in place overnight once vegetation clearance works begin to allow teams to work safely.

Ollerton roundabout is one of five junctions included in the A614/A6097 major road network scheme and improvements will focus on reshaping the roundabout to give vehicles more room and widening approaches and exits to the roundabout.

Improvements will also include installing new pedestrian crossings on Old Rufford Road and Mansfield Road as well as upgrades to lighting, signage and road markings to improve road safety.

Funding for the A614/A6097 scheme has been secured through a capped £24.3 million contribution from the Department for Transport, an additional £8.3 million from Nottinghamshire County Council, £1.7m from developer contributions and £12.6 million from the East Midlands Combined County Authority and national government to complete the financial package.

Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “It is great news that these pre-construction works will start at Ollerton roundabout from November.

“These long-awaited improvements to the roundabout will ultimately reduce congestion and improve journey times, while making journeys safer.

“I would like to thank residents and motorists who attended the Ollerton roundabout meet the contractor event for their feedback on this scheme. We will soon be publishing some frequently asked questions about the scheme on our website to answer questions raised at the event and these will be updated as works start to progress.

“Our teams will be out on-site next month to carry out these initial works which will enable main works to take place from March 2027.

“Works are already underway at Lowdham roundabout and Kirk Hill on the A6097, and we’re pleased to be bringing more of this major road network scheme to life.”
