Plans to streamline decision-making at Nottinghamshire County Council meetings
Plans to streamline decision-making at Nottinghamshire County Council meetings were agreed at the Council’s Governance and Ethics Committee yesterday for final consideration by Full Council.
A Member Working Group has reviewed the council’s constitution to make meetings more efficient and business-like and ensure that decisions are made more promptly.
The proposals will enable more members to continue to raise issues on behalf of local residents by asking questions of the Leader, Cabinet Members and Committee Chairs, raise petitions, put forward and speak on motions and increase the overall time available for constituency speeches on issues important to local people.
Supplementary questions will continue but will be answered via a written process to allow more members to ask questions.
Councillor Wendy Lukacs, Chairman of the County Council’s Governance and Ethics Committee, said the public expects elected members to discuss the issues that are most relevant to their daily lives – such as roads, education, SEND and adult social care.
She said: “As I have previously said, Nottinghamshire residents do not want to listen and watch political point scoring and posturing during meetings, they want to see councillors deliver on their promises to improve their lives.
“These changes are needed to modernise the council’s decision-making process and show the public we are working tirelessly for them.”
