Nottinghamshire Day: celebrating the county we are proud to call home
As chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, I am delighted to be joining residents and communities across our county in celebrating Nottinghamshire Day on Tuesday (25 August).
This special day has quickly become an important fixture in our calendar, giving us all an opportunity to reflect on what makes Nottinghamshire such a wonderful place to live, work and visit.
It is a chance to celebrate our rich heritage, beautiful countryside, communities and the many people, businesses, organisations and attractions that give our county its distinctive character.
Nottinghamshire has a story like few other places.
From Sherwood Forest and the legend of Robin Hood to our historic towns and villages, sporting traditions, theatres, museums and cultural venues, there is so much of which we can be proud.
We also have two fantastic universities – Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham – where innovative work is being undertaken to improve the lives of people across Nottinghamshire and beyond.
Our county continues to evolve, but our strong sense of identity and community remains at its heart.
Nottinghamshire Day is also about looking forward as well as celebrating our past.
It provides a wonderful opportunity to support local businesses and discover one of our many hidden gems off the beaten track.
I would encourage everyone to make the most of the day.
Why not visit one of our fantastic attractions, enjoy a walk in the countryside, support a local independent business, attend an event or simply spend time with family and friends enjoying everything Robin Hood County has to offer.
I am particularly pleased that Sherwood Forest will be hosting a special weekend of activities, bringing people together to celebrate our county in one of its most iconic locations.
With a programme inspired by Nottinghamshire’s history and heritage, it promises to be a fitting celebration of what makes this place so special.
I am honoured to play a part in this year’s celebrations, and I hope residents across Nottinghamshire will feel equally proud of our wonderful county.
So, whether you are exploring somewhere new or celebrating a favourite local place, I hope you will join me in making Nottinghamshire Day a memorable occasion.
Please share your photographs and experiences using #NottsDay and help us showcase the very best of Nottinghamshire to an even wider audience.
Happy Nottinghamshire Day!
