Changes to bus services as part of Kirk Hill junction works
Bus service changes are coming to Rushcliffe as works on the A614/A6097 scheme get underway at Kirk Hill, East Bridgford.
The 12-month closure of Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road from 24 August means that trentbarton’s Rushcliffe Villager will be rerouted, with Shelford and Gunthorpe no longer served.
Passengers in Shelford and Gunthorpe will instead be served by eight additional journeys Monday to Saturday on the Nottsbus 747 service, thanks to funding from Nottinghamshire County Council. The rest of the 747 service is funded by the East Midlands Combined County Authority.
Those wishing to travel into Bingham and Nottingham from Shelford and Gunthorpe will be able to board the 747 into Radcliffe on Trent and change onto either the Rushcliffe Villager or mainline service, where a through ticket will be available.
In East Bridgford, the Rushcliffe Villager will follow the diversion route into and out of the village via Butts Lane, using Holloway Close to turn around.
Parking restrictions will be introduced on Holloway Close to allow buses to travel through safely and residents are advised that these restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration of the works at Kirk Hill. Existing parking bays on Holloway Close are unaffected by the restrictions.
Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “The start of works at Kirk Hill in East Bridgford is a big milestone for the A614/A6097 improvement scheme.
“These works mean that both Kirk Hill and East Bridgford Road will be closed for 12 months from 24 August, and we have been working closely with trentbarton and the East Midlands Combined County Authority to understand the impacts on local bus services.
“We know that buses are a lifeline to communities and that is why we have funded additional journeys on the Nottsbus 747 service to ensure that passengers in Shelford and Gunthorpe can connect into Bingham and Nottingham.
“We understand that residents on Holloway Close in East Bridgford may be concerned about the parking restrictions and this isn’t a decision we have taken lightly.
“Existing parking bays will be maintained on Holloway Close, and we’re asking residents and motorists not to park on the road to allow buses to safely travel along the route.
“We’ve had to make these changes to bus routes as part of our works to improve and upgrade Kirk Hill junction and further information can be found on trentbarton’s website or the Nottinghamshire County Council website.”
