A6097 at Kirk Hill to close for five nights

The A6097 at Kirk Hill, East Bridgford will close for five nights next week for vegetation and tree clearance works.

The works, which are part of the A614/A6097 scheme, mean that a closure will be in place between Gunthorpe Bridge and the A46 every night from Monday 21 September until the morning of Saturday 26 September.

Trees and vegetation between the Kirk Hill junction and the A46 roundabout will be removed to facilitate the junction widening works and to improve visibility at the new junction.

A signed diversion route will be in place during the works via the A46, A617, A614 and A6097 and vice versa.

Councillor Bert Bingham, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “We’re making good progress at Kirk Hill in East Bridgford since works officially started just under a month ago.

“The last night closure earlier this month saw our teams remove road markings and traffic signals and construct a safety barrier and from Monday evening, our teams will be working overnight once more to make this scheme a reality.

“The focus of the next night closure will be vegetation and tree clearance, and these works are not only essential to enable us to widen the junction but also to improve visibility at the junction.

“We know that news of these clearance works may cause concern within local communities about the loss of habitats and we would like to reassure everyone that a full bird and bat survey has taken place to allow us to progress with these works.

“A diversion route will be in place, meaning that motorists will need to travel via the A46, the A617, the A614 and the A6097. We are aware that works are taking place on the A617 between Hockerton and Kelham at the same time as this night closure.

“Our project management team at Via East Midlands has coordinated with the team carrying out these A617 works and while the night closure is in place on the A6097 next week, the closure on the A617 will be lifted, with traffic lights in place on this route instead.
